If you've visited this thread you are probably wondering how you can make games like the rest of us here at the Game Village!
Well making a game isn't easy. There is a lot of coding being involved. Here is a list of programs that are used to create games.*
Game Maker
Game Maker is a really fun program. You can create games from scratch. It is intimidating at first, but you once get used to it, it's an easy program. There are some really good games created with Game Maker. It is $20 for the full program but, there is a lite version. The script editor is pretty hard if you're like me and don't have the attention span to actually try to learn the coding.
RPG Maker XP
This program is a very popular program. Many people use it including myself. It is $60 though. "$60?! I would never pay that much money for a dumb program!" Actually, it isn't all that dumb. It's RTP contains 200+Characters, a 50 tileset graphics, and much more. So this program comes with lots of resources, AND it is easy to create graphics yourself, such as characters, tilesets, icons, etc. In my opinion the $60 is completely worth it! This program has been used to create many Pokemon games! The starter kit can be found on another thread on these forums. The script editor in my opinion is really hard, others think it's fairly easy.
RPG Maker VX
RMVX isn't as popular as RPG Maker XP. It is $60 as well as RMXP. The RTP doesn't contain has much resources, and it is harder to create resources yourself. The scripting editor is slightly different. The $60 I don't find worth it. I have only used the 30-day trial. I will provide screenshots of all of these programs . The graphics look cooler for RMVX, but there aren't many characters. There IS a character generator that is in japanese, and you can create millions of characters.
These are the MAIN and EASY programs that people will use. Eventually I will provide screenshots of the programs in action and screenshots of their work. Visit the PokeSims Board for a look on how games look on RMXP and Custom Graphics.
